Jesus Varela
Jesus Y. Varela (born December 18, 1927 in Bacolod City , † February 23, 2018 in Pasay ) was a Filipino clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Sorsogon .
Life
Jesus Y. Varela was ordained a priest on March 17, 1956 .
Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 28, 1967 auxiliary bishop in Zamboanga and titular bishop of Tatilti . The Archbishop of Caceres , Teopisto Valderrama Alberto , gave him episcopal ordination on April 30 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Mariano Gaviola y Garcés , Bishop of Cabanatuan , and Julio Xavier Labayen OCD , Prelate of Infanta .
On February 17, 1971, he was appointed Bishop of Ozamis . On November 27, 1980 he was appointed Bishop of Sorsogon by Pope John Paul II . On April 16, 2003, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
