Jesus stories. Stories from the New Testament (Italian original title: Gesù, un regno senza confini , to German "Jesus, a kingdom without borders", subtitle Parole ed immagini dal nuovo testamento , to German "Words and images from the New Testament") is a 26-part cartoon series about the life story of Jesus Christ , the focus of which, as already indicated in the original Italian title, is his proclamation of the kingdom of God . The basis for the individual episodes are the biblical narratives from the Gospels of the New Testament .

production

The series was created in an Italian co-production between Mondo TV and Antoniano Bologna in collaboration with RAI . Luciano Scaffa was responsible for the scene design and the texts, and Marco and Gi Pagot for the personal drawings. Directed by Jung Soo Yong. In the Italian original, Roberto Pedicini lends his voice to the figure of Jesus, Giuliano Santi acts as the narrator.

German version

The German version was edited by IT-Media GmbH, Dresden, under the direction of Marika von Radvany and Waltraud Müller, with advice from Prof. Christoph Dohmen and Prof. Eckehard Bruchner. The German version uses a different theme music than the original Italian version, composed by Stefan Traub . The copyright for the German version lies with the children's channel .

The cartoon series has been broadcast three times on German television and exclusively on the children's channel:

  1. November 9, 1997 - May 3, 1998, 10:30 a.m. on Sundays
  2. July 6, 1998 - August 10, 1998, Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.
  3. January 10, 1999 - July 4, 1999, 10:30 a.m. on Sundays

More synchronizations

  • In the English version, the title of the series is: Jesus: A Kingdom Without Frontiers . A series of 26 VHS cassettes with one episode per cassette was also released in English in 1998 .
  • In the Spanish version, the title of the series is: Jesús: Un Reino sin Fronteras .

particularities

Each of the 26 episodes of the series is 30 minutes long. After the intro and the plot of about 25 minutes each, a short theological consideration with a historical context follows in the last 5 minutes , during which the audience receives explanations about the circumstances and background of the previously shown scenes. This final text always begins with the question What was it like back then? In the German version, the final text is spoken by Klaus Havenstein .

The dialogues and actions are largely based on the respective underlying Bible texts of the Gospels. The original Italian version is based on the Bible translation La Bibbia Concordata, traduzione interconfessionale .

Because the animated series is aimed in particular at children and young people, scenes with animals are included in almost all of the episodes. B. Dogs that run towards Jesus and his disciples when they arrive in a village to greet them , to find sheep , donkeys , birds, etc. In contrast to most film adaptations of the Bible and depictions in art, the figure of Jesus in the cartoon series is not drawn with a slim body and hanging down over the shoulders, but only with neck-length, black hair and corresponds more to the image with which the In a 2001 documentary, the BBC tried to reconstruct Jesus of Nazareth as a powerful carpenter .

Reviews

“[...] in episodes of about 25 minutes in length, the passages from the four Gospels are quite naive and slow, but sensitively designed and enriched with film-like sequences. [...] are especially suitable for religious instruction [...] The short episodes make it possible to prepare and follow up the words and deeds of Jesus within one lesson. "
