Jauheni Schuleu ( Belarusian Яўгеній Жулеў , English transcription Yauheni Zhuleu ; born January 18, 1984 in Severomorsk , RSFSR ) is a Belarusian biathlete .
Jauheni Schuleu lives in Severomorsk, trains in Vitebsk and works as a physical education teacher. The native Russian is looked after by the coaches Svoboda and Belopuchow. He started biathlon in 1997 and has been a member of Belarus' national team since 2006. In 2001 he first took part in the biathlon junior world championships in Khanty-Mansiysk . He only competed in singles and finished 37th. It took two years before Schuleu in Kościelisko took part in a Junior World Championship for the second time. This time the Belarusian finished 22nd, 55th in the sprint and 30th in the pursuit. Since the 2003/04 season he also took part in the junior competitions in the Biathlon European Cup. In 2004 he started again at the Junior World Championships in Haute-Maurienne and finished 53rd in the sprint, 38th in the pursuit and was seventh in the relay. Schuleu then started at the 2004 Winter Military World Championship in Östersund , where he was 71st in the sprint and 21st in the military patrol race. The third major event of the year was the junior competitions at the 2004 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Osrblie . The Belarusian finished tenth in the sprint, 17th in the pursuit and in the mass start race. With Andrei Slavnikov and Uladsimir Miklascheuski he won the bronze medal in the relay race behind the relays from the Czech Republic and Latvia. The last major event among the juniors was the 2005 World Championships in Kontiolahti , where Schuleu was 20th in the individual, 29th in the sprint, 19th in the pursuit and ninth in the relay race.
Since the 2005/06 season , Schuleu has started with the men in the performance area. He contested his first races here in Obertilliach in 2005 as part of the Biathlon European Cup and was 48th and 61st in sprint races. In the same year he achieved a first result in the points with 12th place in a sprint in Windischgarsten . At the start of the 2006/07 season , the Belarusian made his debut in Östersund in the Biathlon World Cup . The first race was an individual in which he was 80th. In Hochfilzen he ran 69th place in the same year to his best place in the racing series so far. Initially there were four appearances in the World Cup. The first major event for men was the 2008 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Haute Maurienne. Schuleu was one of only a few athletes to compete in both cross-country and roller-skis races . In the cross he finished seventh in the sprint and tenth in the pursuit. On rollerskis came 37th in the sprint and fifth in the relay with Iryna Babezkaja , Maryja Kaslouskaja and Sjarhej Daschkewitsch . The next major event was the 2009 European Biathlon Championships in Ufa . In the individual, Schuleu was 22nd in the sprint and tenth in the relay in his Russian homeland. A year later he also took part in the 2010 European Biathlon Championships in Otepää . After 28th places in the individual and sprint, a 30th place in the pursuit race and eleventh place with the relay of Belarus followed. Next Schuleu took part in the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2010 in Osrblie. There he finished 30th in the sprint and 25th in the pursuit.
