James M. "Jim" Fahey (born May 11, 1979 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 94 games for the San Jose Sharks and New Jersey Devils in between 1998 and 2010, among others of the National Hockey League in the position of defender . Fahey spent most of his career in the American Hockey League , and he also completed two seasons with the Krefeld Penguins in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Jim Fahey played for the Catholic Knights high school team in his youth before going to Northeastern University in Boston in 1998 . In the same year, the defender was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft in the eighth round at position 212. Fahey then played for four years for the ice hockey team of the University and was 2001-02 for the Hobey Baker Award as the best player of the National Collegiate Athletic Association nominated .
In the summer of 2002, the legal protection of the Organization of the San Jose Sharks of closed and played two seasons in both the National Hockey League , and for the AHL - Farm Team Cleveland Barons . In the 2002/03 season, Fahey scored 20 points in 43 games and was able to attract attention for the first time. During the failure of the NHL season 2004/05 , the defender played exclusively for Cleveland, but could not continue to prevail in the NHL roster of the Sharks and came in 2005/06 only to 21 NHL appearances.
In the summer of 2006, his contract with the Sharks was extended, but before the start of the season, the American was transferred to the New Jersey Devils , in whose NHL team he started the season, but then injured himself in early November. Fahey was then put on the waiver list and finally sent to the farm team, the Lowell Devils , in the AHL. In the summer of 2007, the defender moved as a free agent within the AHL to the Rockford IceHogs , the new farm team of the Chicago Blackhawks , where he came up with twelve assists in 65 league games, but remained without a goal for the third season in a row.
For the 2008/09 season , Jim Fahey moved to the German Ice Hockey League for the Krefeld Pinguinen and spent two seasons there. After he announced the move within the league to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers in June 2010 , he stepped out of the existing contractual relationship only one month later and declared his career over at the age of 31.
International
At the international level, Fahey played his only international tournament with the United States national team at the 2003 World Cup in Finland . The defender was able to score one goal in six tournament games. With the 13th place in the final ranking, the US boys were able to prevent relegation to the second division.
