Joachim Müller (born July 15, 1952 in Zwickau ) is a former soccer player and soccer coach.
Athletic career
National game operation
In his youth, Joachim Müller played at TSG Rodewisch and moved to FC Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1967 , where he ran through the individual junior teams and graduated from the Karl-Marx-Städter children's and youth sports school. In 1968 he was with the junior team of the FCK Young World Cup winner .
After the relegation of the FCK in 1970 and the rebuilding of the Karl-Marx-Städter football club in the GDR league , Müller was only 18 years old and was able to prove his talent in the first team. He was on the pitch 25 times in the 1970/71 league season, scoring 12 goals and thus played a key role in the club's immediate resurgence in the GDR league . In his first first division season , Müller was used from the first day of play and played 23 of a total of 26 point games. Initially used as a center forward, he later shaped the game of FCK as a midfield strategist in the following 14 more league game years.
In 1986 a cruciate ligament rupture ended the career of the qualified sports teacher. The Karl-Marx-Städter football idol played a total of 418 competitive games for FCK. Among them were 340 matches in the GDR Oberliga with 54 goals. This puts Joachim Müller in second place behind Jürgen Bähringer (350) in the rankings of FC Karl-Marx-Stadt in the major league games. In the league goals achieved, Müller is fourth.
Selection bets
Between 1968 and 1970 Müller completed 27 international matches with the GDR junior national team , with which he won the UEFA youth tournament in 1970 after a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands by drawing lots . The year before, Müller and his teammates had already taken 2nd place in this forerunner of the U-18 European Championship in front of their home crowd.
In the mid-1970s, 27 games with the GDR youth team were added. In the GDR Dress the B national team was the FCK player summoned in another encounter.
On April 27, 1977, the former young national player was used for the first time in the senior team . In the international match Romania - GDR (1: 1) he played on the left midfield. However , he was unable to prevail over the long term against the competition from Pommerenke and Schade , so that he only played five games. None of them was a competitive game in the World Cup or European Championship qualification.
From May 1979 to spring 1980 he was a member of the DFV's Olympic team , which was re-formed after the victory in Montreal without any players used in World Cup games. The Karl-Marx-Städter was not one of the 17 players nominated for the Olympic football tournament in Moscow who won the silver medal.
Coaching career
After his active career, Joachim Müller was employed as a youth coach at FC Karl-Marx-Stadt and its successor club Chemnitzer FC until 1993. In 2002 Müller became head coach at CFC and saved the club from falling into fourth class. After differences with Rico Steinmann , who was employed in the management of Chemnitz at the time, a different coach was hired for the new season with Frank Rohde , despite Müller's successful work .
In 2004 Müller was coach of the Swiss super-league club FC Wil for half a year , he was with the team Swiss Cup winner , but the club was relegated. On December 15, 2005, he was finally again a coach at Chemnitzer FC, but did not manage to save the club from relegation to the Oberliga Nordost , but won the Sachsenpokal . On April 7, 2007 he was dismissed from the CFC after playing several games without a win.
