The B-national soccer team of the GDR was a selection team of soccer players from the GDR . It belonged to the German Football Association and represented it internationally in friendly matches against similarly compiled second representatives from other national associations. The footballers employed in it should be tested by the coaches for use in the A-Elf .
premiere
After the GDR was accepted as a full member of FIFA on July 24, 1952, the B national team played its international debut in the spring of 1953. This happened almost nine months after the debut of the A-selection against the same association, those from Poland . The following players were called up for the home win in front of 60,000 spectators in the Bruno-Plache-Stadion in this opening match:

After Werner Welzel had to retire injured, the already substituted Hans Speth was sent back to the field.

For the B-Elf, 47 games were recorded between 1953 and 1990. Between August 1977 and April 1990, the team played no international matches. The most frequent international match partners included Hungary (eleven matches) and Poland (nine matches) as well as the ČSSR and Bulgaria (seven matches each).

After a twelve and a half year break, the football association reactivated the B national team at the time of the fall .
