Joan Chamorro (born September 24, 1962 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish jazz musician ( saxophone , clarinets , flute , double bass , composition ).

Act

Chamorro listened to pop music in his childhood and didn't focus on classical music and jazz until he was 18 when he started playing the saxophone and guitar . He studied classical saxophone at the Barcelona Conservatory with Adolf Ventas. At the same time, he completed jazz training at the Taller de Músics in Barcelona. He was a member of the Big Band del Taller de músics , the Big Band de Bellaterra , the John Dubuclet Big Band , the Big Band Jazz Terrassa and the Eladio Reinón - Tete Montoliu Supercombo .

Chamorro played with Slide Hampton , Frank Foster , Teddy Edwards , Frank Wess , Bebo Valdés , Randy Brecker , Gary Smulyan , Dick Oatts , Ralph LaLama , Jesse Davis , Dennis Rowland , Carmen Lundy , Michael Mossman , Bart van Lier , Bobby Shew , Judy Niemack , Perico Sambeat and Josep Maria Farràs, Lluís Vidal , David Mengual and David Xirgu. He toured Europe and performed at prestigious Spanish jazz festivals. He was part of the Orquestra de Radio Televisión Española , where he also accompanied The Manhattan Transfer and Stevie Wonder , and was a theater musician in the Orquestra del Teatre Lliure .

Chamorro is the founder and leader of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band and accompanied his student Andrea Motis with his quintet . Tom Lord recorded 35 recording sessions with Chamorro between 1988 and 2017.
