Johann Christoph Hampe

Johann Christoph Hampe ( pseudonym : Echtermann Larsen , born January 23, 1913 in Breslau ; † June 27, 1990 in Schäftlarn an der Isar ) was a German Protestant theologian , journalist and writer .

Life

Johann Christoph Hampe was the son of a judge . Hampe attended high schools in Breslau, Magdeburg and Kiel . After graduating from high school , he began a commercial apprenticeship and then switched to training as a bookseller , which he completed in Königsberg , Breslau and Munich . From 1939 he took part in the Second World War in France , on the Eastern Front and in Italy as an officer in the Wehrmacht ; he was taken prisoner of war , from which he was released in 1946.

From 1946 to 1953 Johann Christoph Hampe studied Protestant theology , philosophy and Romance studies at the universities in Göttingen , Geneva and Tübingen ; He took his theological exams in 1951 and 1953 in Göttingen . After his ordination in 1953, he worked as a Lutheran pastor in Bremen . From 1954 to 1962 he was part of the editorial team of the German general Sunday newspaper . At times he worked as a foreign correspondent in the United States and Italy. From 1962 he lived as a freelance writer in Schäftlarn in Upper Bavaria and later temporarily in Munich (Waldperlach). From 1962 to 1965 he was a council observer at the Second Vatican Council in Rome .

In addition to journalistic and theological work, Johann Christoph Hampe has written narrative works for young and adult readers, radio plays and scripts for television plays as well as hymns . He is represented in the Evangelical Hymnbook with three translations of foreign language songs . 1956 was the work published by Hampe Your day is dawning on the shortlist for the German Youth Book Prize . His book Die is quite different. Experiences with one's own death in 1975 ( 9 1982) is considered a “classic” of the near-death experience .
