Johann Dummel (* around 1803 in Markelfingen , then Electorate of Baden ; † February 19, 1873 in Salzburg ; also Dumel and Dumler , he himself signed letters with Johan Dummel ) was an organ and piano builder and worked mainly in Salzburg.

Life

Johann Dummel was born in Markelfingen near Radolfzell. After his apprenticeship and traveling years, he came to Salzburg, where on September 20, 1836 and March 1, 1837 he applied to the Salzburg magistrate for a license to build organs, repair the same, and even manufacture the forte pianos . The two other organ builders, Ludwig Mooser and Joseph Konradt , then questioned by the officials , advised the magistrate against : they considered a third such trade quite superfluous [...], whereupon Dummel's request was rejected. Against this he appealed and was finally granted the requested authorization on October 19, 1837 .

He had his apartment and probably his workshop first in house Innere Steingasse no.341, at the latest in 1840 in house Badergäßchen no.308, where he had bought a house floor for 2060 guilders . At first he worked with his brother Anton Dummel, whom he employed as a journeyman and with whom he mainly repaired existing organs. On the occasion of the rebuilding of the organ in the parish church of Morzg , he was described in a letter from the government of the Salzburg district as very capable , but later criticized his work as highly imperfect and bad . As a result, he had little chance of getting a chance on new buildings.
In 1837 Dummel tuned the organ on the Dürrnberg , which is now in Torren , in 1842 he renovated the organ in the parish church of Hallstatt , built in 1741 by Johann Gottfried Lindemayr , in 1846 he repaired the Karl Mauracher organ in Faistenau , also in 1848, where he spent three days at the Repair and tuning of the instrument had worked.
Most recently he lived, divorced from his wife and destitute, in the leprosy house , where he died on February 19, 1873, two days later he was buried.

In Salzburg Museum one is square piano by Johann Dummel issued.
