Johann Eberhard Rudolf Hiller von Gaertringen

Johann Eberhard Rudolf Hiller von Gaertringen (born January 13, 1735 in Gärtringen ; † February 12, 1799 in Fraustadt ) was a Prussian major general , chief of infantry regiment No. 37 and heir to Lenki and Marczenin in South Prussia .

Life

origin

His parents were the Württemberg government councilor and chief magistrate Johann Hiller von Gaertringen (born September 3, 1687; † June 15, 1756) and his wife Anna Sophie, née Freiin von Preysing (born November 7, 1696; † December 16, 1755).

career

In 1750 he became a cadet in Stuttgart and in 1755 a lieutenant . During the Seven Years' War he fought against the Prussians in the battles of Breslau and Leuthen as well as in the siege of Schweidnitz. In 1764 he became a major in the Leibregiment and took his leave in 1765 .

He went into Prussian service , where he came on May 7, 1767 as a captain in the grenadier regiment "Wallenroth" . In 1778 he was transferred as a major to the von Petersdorff infantry regiment . He took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession and in 1782 became commander of the 2nd battalion. In 1787 he became a lieutenant colonel and took part in the campaign in Holland . In the same year he received the order Pour le Mérite . In 1789 he was promoted to colonel and in 1790 was promoted to regimental commander in Bielefeld .

During the First Coalition War , he took part in the Valmy cannonade . In 1794 he became major general and in 1799 chief of the infantry regiment "von Wolfframsdorff" . He died as such in the same year.

family

He married Juliane Dorothea von Hagen (1745–1786) from the Naulin family in Magdeburg in 1770. The couple had the following children:
