Johann Figl

Johann Figl (born June 22, 1945 in Grabensee , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian religious scholar and religious philosopher .

Life

Johann Figl attended the Stiftsgymnasium Melk and graduated from there in 1965. He studied Catholic theology and philosophy (in combination with psychology and pedagogy as well as German studies ) and graduated in 1970 as Mag. Theol. at the University of Innsbruck . There he was a student assistant for a year. 1971 to 1973: Doctoral studies at the University of Tübingen ( Dr. theol .) As part of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) . In 1974 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Fundamental Theology in Tübingen .

In 1975 he became a university assistant at the Institute for Christian Philosophy at the University of Vienna . At the same time he obtained his second doctorate as Dr. phil. From 1979 he was head of the department for atheism research, in 1983 he completed his habilitation with the habilitation thesis Hermeneutische Religionsphilosophie in Vienna and was appointed full professor for religious studies in December 1986. From 1995 to 1999 he was dean of the Catholic Theological Faculty .

He worked as a lecturer and guest lecturer at the Philosophical-Theological University Linz for philosophy and religious studies in 1982 and 1984 , and in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2014 at the Institute for Religious Studies at the Free University of Berlin .
