Johann Janßen (politician)

Johann Janßen (born December 22, 1895 in Schortens , † September 18, 1983 in Wilhelmshaven ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1961 to 1972 he was Lord Mayor of Wilhelmshaven.

Live and act

After attending school, Janßen learned the saddlery and wallpapering trade. He was a soldier in the First World War and after the war became a member of the Rüstringen City Council as a member of the SPD . In 1910 he joined the socialist youth workers. From 1939 he was obliged to serve at the navy shipyard , where he became chairman of the works council after 1945 .

On July 19, 1945 Janßen joined the trust committee appointed by the local military government , the first municipal council after the war, and was elected to the first city council of Wilhelmshaven on October 13, 1946, to which he was a member until 1972. Janßen was elected mayor at the first meeting of the city council . Janßen held this office from 1946 to 1952 and from 1956 to 1961. From 1961 to 1972 he was Lord Mayor of Wilhelmshaven. He was particularly interested in rebuilding schools. From 1950 to 1961 Janßen was chairman of the DGB district committee Wilhelmshaven-Friesland.

Awards

In 1965 he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit , on the occasion of his 75th birthday in 1970 with the Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany , and on July 5, 1972, he received honorary citizenship of the city of Wilhelmshaven.
