Johann Joachim Rost

Johann Joachim Julius rust , even Ivan Akimowitsch rust , ( Russian Иоганн Иоахим Юлиус Рост, Иван Акимович Рост * 29. September 1726 in Hannover , † April 7 . Jul / 18th April  1791 greg. In Moscow ) was a kurhannoversch - Russian Mathematician , physicist and university professor .

Life

Rost came from a noble family from the Electorate of Hanover and was a graduate of the University of Göttingen . He was proficient in Latin , Ancient Greek , French , English , Dutch , Italian and Spanish .

In 1757, Rost went to Moscow at the invitation of Gerhard Friedrich Müller, a member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, and became an adjunct at Moscow University (MGU). In the first year he taught mechanics , military and civil architecture and mathematics in English and privately as needed . Then the University Conference commissioned in 1757 rust and Anton Alexeyevich Barssow , lectures hold on the areas of mathematics. Rost gave his lectures in Latin. In 1761, Rost became a full professor at the chair for experimental and theoretical physics . He gave lectures on applied mathematics and experimental physics . He gave the two-hour mathematics lecture four times a week according to Johann Friedrich Weidler's Institutiones Matheseos selectis observationibus illustratae in usum praelectionum academicarum from 1736. Rost gave the experimental physics lecture twice a week. In the first few years he relied on Winkler's book Beginnings of Physics ( Leipzig , 1753) and later on Johann Gottlob Krüger's Philosophia naturalis, experimentis confirmata ( Halle , 1753) and John Theophilus Desagulier's Course of Experimental Philosophy ( London , 1717 and 1745). In a report on behalf of the rector of MGU Mikhail Kheraskov one was reflecting telescope in rust cabinet mentioned. In addition to his teaching activities, he developed an extensive commercial activity by buying bread , hemp , fats , down and other goods for export at various locations as an agent and commission agent for a Dutch- Russian shipping company . He became a rich man and had his own house in Moscow. He was married to Müller's cousin Maria Karlowna nee von Wolff and had two sons, to whom he left more than 1,000 serf peasants and a capital of several hundred thousand rubles . His son Jacob-Gottlieb Rost became the first director of the Moscow Imperial Business School.
