Baron Johann Karl Friedrich von Mengden ( April 1730 in Saussen in Livonia , † August 17, 1796 in Warsaw ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 4 and governor of Ragnit .

Life

origin

His parents were the heir of Saussen Georg Albrecht von Mengden (* 1709 - 22 December 1768) and his wife Friederike Petronella, born von Buddenbrock (* 1711 - 25 May 1730) from the Ohselshof family.

Military career

Mengden became a cornet in the Gardes du Corps regiment on May 13, 1748 . During the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles of Prague , Roßbach , Leuthen , Zorndorf and Torgau . In the battle of Leuthen he acquired the order Pour le Mérite . On May 26, 1757 he became a lieutenant, on May 28, 1760 staff officer and on May 25, 1766 Rittmeister and company commander . On May 6, 1769 he was made major with a patent from September 12, 1764. On December 25, 1773 he was commander of the regiment, but only on May 20, 1775 Lieutenant Colonel .

In addition, Mengden received the post of governor of Ragnit on November 10, 1775. He then took part with the regiment in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On May 20, 1782 he became a colonel with a patent from May 21, 1782. On September 25, 1785 he was appointed major general and became chief of the cuirassier regiment "Arnim". For this purpose he became lieutenant general on August 10, 1790 and took part in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 . He died in Warsaw on August 17, 1796.

His first wife was Freiin Maria von Deyder-Malberg († 1782). From the marriage the son Karl Eduard (born September 6, 1780) emerged, who later became a Prussian artillery officer. After the death of his first wife, Mengden married Maria Charlotte von Hahnenfeld on February 21, 1785 (* April 10, 1765 - January 21, 1799), daughter of General Nikolaus Reinhard von Hanenfeldt . The couple had the following children:
