Johann Ludwig von Eckartsberg

Johann Ludwig von Eckartsberg (* May 1723 in Bayreuth ; † June 14, 1793 in Wesel ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the "Eckartsberg Foot Regiment" named after him .

Life

Eckartsberg was the son of a country cavalier. His mother was born von Künsberg .

Military career

He had been in the service of Bayreuth since 1739, joined the Prussian Army on August 29, 1741 and was employed as a private corporal in the "Riedesel on foot" regiment . As an ensign he took part in the campaign in 1744/45 . Eckartsberg fought with his regiment during the Seven Years' War near Prague and Kolin , took part in the siege of Olomouc and was shot in the hip near Kunersdorf . After his recovery he was still employed at Torgau , meanwhile captain and company commander .

On July 7, 1766 he was promoted to major , on June 21, 1775 Lieutenant Colonel . During the War of the Bavarian Succession , he was promoted to colonel on January 20, 1779 . As such, Eckartsberg became regimental commander on May 16, 1783. On March 1, 1786 he received the completed regiment "Hessen-Kassel on foot" and was appointed major general on March 4. When riots broke out in Holland in August 1786 , his regiment was put on the march. In November 1786 the regiment was back in Wesel.

Eckartsberg dimittied on April 10th, 1792 with an annual pension of 1000 thalers. On May 31, 1792, he was also given permission to wear his regiment's uniform.

He married Friederike Antoinette Baronesse von Tanner on June 20, 1769 in Wesel . The following children were born from the marriage:
