Johann Moller (lawyer)

Johann Moller (* around 1610 in Hamburg ; † June 19, 1672 ibid) was a German lawyer and Hamburg council syndicate .

Origin and family

Moller comes from the Hanseatic family Moller vom Baum and was a son of the council syndicate Vincent Moller (1568-1625) from his marriage to Elisabeth Beckmann (1586-1657), daughter of the Hamburg mayor Barthold Beckmann (1549-1622). The mayor Barthold Moller (1605–1667) and the council syndicate and resident of the Lower Saxony district Vincent Moller (1615–1668) were his brothers.

His first marriage was on August 17, 1635, with Catharina von Holten (1610–1638), daughter of the Juraten in the parish of Sankt Nikolai Heinrich von Holten. From this marriage a son Vincent and a daughter Elisabeth Catharina sprang, married to the resident of the Electorate of Mainz in the Lower Saxony district of Hans Heinrich Freiherr von Erlenkamp, ​​son of the senior elder in the parish of Sankt Nikolai Hans Freiherr von Erlenkamp (1606–1681).

Moller's second wife became Cäcilie von Spreckelsen on September 14, 1640, daughter of the Hamburg merchant and jurate to Sankt Nikolai Hartwig von Spreckelsen and sister of councilor Hartwig von Spreckelsen . The mayor Hieronymus Hartwig Moller (1641–1702) comes from this second marriage . The children Barthold, Margaretha, Johann and Cäcilie died young. Albert (1651–1686) married Elisabeth Wetken and died of the wound he had received in the battle against the Danes at Sternschanze in 1686. Lucas (1653–1731) became a businessman and married Catharina Margaretha Moller (vom Hirsch).

Live and act

After his education studying Moller jurisprudence at the University of Basel and received his doctorate there with the work Disputatio inauguralis de juridica legitima for Doctor of Law .

In 1646 he was appointed ducal court councilor of Mecklenburg .

On February 2, 1654 Moller was elected to the council syndicate and took part as Hamburg envoy in the peace negotiations after the First Bremen-Swedish War , which led to the First Stade Settlement on November 28, 1654 .

In 1672 Moller was appointed Protosyndicus, but died shortly afterwards and was buried on June 23, 1672 in the main church of St. Peter .
