Johannes "Joe" Clair (born October 16, 1985 in Wiesbaden ) is a German author and corporal of the paratrooper troops of the Bundeswehr . In October 2012 he published his first book Four Days in November about his mission in Afghanistan.

Career

After completing high school at the Eichenschule Scheeßel and doing basic military service , Clair committed himself to serving in the team for four years as a regular soldier . Despite his fear of heights, he joined the paratrooper troops and served u. a. in the paratrooper battalion 313 in Seedorf. As a special operations infantryman, he took part in the Afghanistan mission from June 2010 to January 2011 as part of the ISAF mandate and witnessed NATO's change of strategy on site. There he was deployed as a G3ZF shooter and was part of the first group of the G platoon in the Kunduz field camp . He wrote the book Four Days in November (2012) about his work and his participation in Operation Halmazag . It was on the Spiegel bestseller list for 37 weeks in 2013 .

After the end of his service, he began to study social economics at the University of Hamburg and also gave lectures on his experiences throughout Germany. As part of his commitment to more awareness of Bundeswehr soldiers, he was regularly present on television at this time. In 2013 he was also the protagonist in the refugee documentary Auf der Flucht - Das Experiment , which was broadcast on ZDF and was awarded the German TV Prize for Clair . Clair also wrote for JS-Magazin , a publication of the Evangelical Church for young soldiers. He has also written a foreword for the book Army on the move , published by Carola Hartmann Miles Verlag in October 2014 . To cope with his experiences in action, Clair is currently in a program for traumatized soldiers of the Bundeswehr.

Clair is involved in veterans work on a voluntary basis and was elected deputy chairman of the Federation of German Veterans (BDV). Through this organization, he tries to raise awareness of those returning from the Bundeswehr and to help those affected. Since 2015 he has largely withdrawn from his duties in the veterans association for health reasons.
