Services

Johannes Erich Flade was a hippologist, researcher, teacher and consultant in the field of equine science that was respected worldwide in specialist circles. A total of around 600 scientific and popular scientific publications testify to his in-depth research and well-founded detailed knowledge. This applies to the writings on horses of antiquity, Koniks , Akhal-Teke , small horses , Shetland ponies , Saxon warmbloods , Kladruber and the donkey, as well as about the Arab horse, which he particularly valued . In particular, his work on individual horse breeds, which is backed by rich scientific data, is repeatedly reprinted. His extensive knowledge in the fields of history, behavior and assessment of the horse made him a sought-after specialist and speaker for seminars and further training outside of his professional teaching activities. Had a large share in the development of horse breeding and equestrian sports in the GDR. He made lasting merits in the field of training and further education for specialist staff.

Flade's particular interest was the Arabian thoroughbred horse. The thoroughbred Arabs Abu Afas , Galka , Grazyna and Armenia , which he selected and imported from Poland for the Institute for Animal Breeding Research in Dummerstorf near Rostock , formed an essential basis for the breeding of the Arabian thoroughbred horse in the GDR. For his students, bypassing restrictive authorities, he organized excursions to the Polish Stud Janów Podlaski and awakened in them not only a passion for the Arabian horse, but also understanding and respect for the history of Poland and its people. He published his first specialist articles on Polish Arabian breeding in 1955 and 1958. His first edition of his book Das Araberpferd learned in 1962 was seven new editions, which he repeatedly revised. His book Janów Podlaski and Polish Arabian Breeding , published in 1997, is another standard work.
