Johannes Kaptain (born June 29, 1926 in Kreuzau ; † December 23, 1998 ) was a German politician ( CDU ), honorary district administrator and member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .
biography
After finishing elementary school in 1940, Kaptain began a commercial apprenticeship at the Thomas Josef Heimbach company in Mariaweiler . After completing his apprenticeship, he had to do the Reich Labor Service and later the Reich Navy . After the end of the Second World War , he worked as an unskilled worker at RWE . He was later used there in his learned profession. From 1952 he was a member of the works council . In 1960 he became chairman there. Kaptain has five children. He died after a long and serious illness on the day before Christmas Eve of 1998.
Political career
Kaptain joined the CDU in 1946. He immediately became district speaker of the Junge Union and seven years later its chairman. In 1963 he became chairman of the CDU district association . He had already been represented in the district council as a knowledgeable citizen since 1954 . He was a full member of the district council from 1956 until his death, i.e. 42 years. In 1956 he became a member of the local council of his home community Kreuzau. He remained a councilor for 36 years. At times he was also mayor .
Kaptain was elected as the successor to Anton Germscheid on October 16, 1964 as District Administrator of the Düren district. He was replaced by Adolf Retz on October 19, 1989 . During Kaptain's term of office, the districts of Jülich and Düren were merged on January 1, 1972. From July 10, 1966 to May 12, 1985, Kaptain was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament .
Honors
In addition to many awards that Kaptain received, the Landrat-Kaptain-Strasse in Kreuzau was named after him. He also became the first honorary citizen of his hometown in 1996 .
