Johannes Richter (architect)
Johannes Richter , also Jodocus Richter , (born April 1, 1842 in Koblenz , † December 31, 1889 in Bonn ; full name: Johann Anton Josef Richter ) was a German architect and construction officer .
Life
Richter was the son of the doctor Anton Richter and his wife Franziska. In his hometown Koblenz he attended high school. In 1859 he began studying at the Berlin Bauakademie , where he passed the master builder examination on July 11, 1868 . This was followed by a job at the management of the Thuringian Railway Company in Erfurt , for which he mainly planned railway buildings . In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 he served as an officer. Richter then worked in the new construction department of the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft as a railway construction and operations inspector. He was responsible for the buildings of the Voreifelbahn from Bonn to Euskirchen - including the station buildings in Duisdorf , Odendorf and Kuchenheim , which were built from 1878 to 1879 - and the Oppum - Krefeld line . He also drew up the plans for the station building of Neuss station , its largest station building. In 1880 Richter was appointed railroad inspector . With the nationalization of the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, Richter entered the Prussian civil service and was transferred to Dirschau .
After his voluntary resignation from civil service, Richter was appointed second city architect of Aachen under Karl Heuser. From December 1, 1884 to December 1, 1886, he headed the building construction department. From August 1886, due to illness, Richter was represented by the future city architect Joseph Laurent . The illness eventually led to his retirement from the service. Richter then worked as a private architect in Bonn and was, among other things, a judge in a church building competition in Mainz. Among other things, he created two designs in 1889 for the new building of the Bonn theological convict Collegium Albertinum and one for the parish church of St. Nikolaus in Kessenich , the completion of which he did not live to see. He was buried in the cemetery in Kessenich an Alt-St. Nicholas .
