John E. Hyten
John E. Hyten (* Huntsville , Alabama ) is a General of the United States Air Force (USAF) and since November 3, 2016 Commander in Chief of the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), a part contending powerful cross-functional command of the United States Armed Forces .
Hyten previously served as commander in command of Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), a major USAF command based on Peterson Air Force Base , Colorado, from Aug. 15, 2014 .
education
Hyten graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering in 1981 . His further education includes a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University (1985).
Service in the rank of general
From May 2007 onwards, Hyten served as Director of Requirements at the AFSPC and was promoted to Brigadier General in this position in October 2007 . This was followed by six months between September 2009 and February 2010 as Director, Cyber and Space Operations, Directorate of Operations and Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Plans and Requirements at the USAF headquarters in Washington, DC and until August 2010 as Director, Space Acquisition at the Pentagon . From September he was Director, Space Programs on the staff of the Deputy Secretary of the Air Force , from November 2010 onwards with the rank of major general .
In May 2012, Hyten was promoted to Lieutenant General, initially appointed Deputy Commander of the AFSPC, and on March 11, 2014, US President Barack Obama nominated him to succeed William L. Shelton as Commander in Chief of the AFSPC. Hyten finally took command on August 15 of the same year, his promotion to general took place as part of the transfer of command.
