Cecil D. Haney
Cecil D. Haney (born December 1955 in Washington, DC ) was an admiral in the United States Navy (USN). He was on 15 November 2013 to 3 November 2016 Commander of the US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), a part contending powerful cross-functional command of the armed forces of the United States based on the Offutt Air Force Base , Nebraska .
Prior to that , he was in command of the US Pacific Fleet (USPACFLT) from January 2012 .
education
Haney grew up in Washington, DC and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in ocean engineering . Further education includes Masters degrees in System Technology and Engineering Acoustics from the Naval Postgraduate School and in National Security Strategy from National Defense University .
Service as flag officer
As Flotilla Admiral , Haney commanded Submarine Group Two in Groton , Connecticut from October 2006 , and was promoted to Rear Admiral in 2007 . In March 2008, he initially joined as Director, Naval Warfare Integration Group , then as Director, Submarine Warfare Division in the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, DC
In December 2010, Haney was promoted to Vice Admiral as deputy commander of USSTRATCOM before he took command of the US Pacific Fleet on January 20, 2012 and was appointed admiral.
On June 24, 2013, US President Barack Obama nominated Haney to succeed General C. Robert Kehler ( US Air Force ) as Commander in Chief of USSTRATCOM. The Senate confirmed the nomination on August 1, and Haney finally took command on November 15.
