During his tenure as bishop Gladwin was also publicly committed to the Christian faith and the tasks of Christianity .

He was chairman of the Church of England Ministry Division until 2006. As part of his work for Christian Aid , a church development agency , he traveled the world and saw firsthand the relentless supply of humanitarian aid to people in need around the world. Working in public

In questions of canon law, Gladwin takes a liberal position. This was particularly evident in his attitude towards the question of homosexuality .

In 2000 he was a guest speaker at an Integrity UK conference . This describes itself as a friendly, safe place for lesbian, gay and bisexual Christians within the fellowship of Evangelical Churches . He preached at a service for gay and lesbian Christians at Southwark Cathedral in London .

On the occasion of the appointment of the homosexual priest Gene Robinson as bishop of the American Episcopal Church , he issued a press release in 2003 in which he expressly supported the decision that all Christians are united in the belief in God, regardless of their sexuality.

In the same year he was an advisor to the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement (LGCM) at their Lambeth conference . In 2005, Gladwin voted for the legal regulation of registered partnerships (Civil Partnerships Bill).

In 2005, he sent an open letter to The Times stressing that the Christian community applies to all people, including homosexuals. Because of this letter, criticism arose within the diocese and he was asked to withdraw his remarks.

In the same year he had to cancel a planned visit to Trinidad and Tobago after the invitation was withdrawn because of Gladwin's liberal attitude towards questions of homosexuality.

In 2006 Gladwin visited Kenya , where he was wrongly accused of promoting homosexuality. The visit was accompanied by strong tensions on several occasions due to Gladwin's advocacy for the rights of homosexual Christians.
