John Stowe OFMConv (born April 15, 1966 in Amherst , Ohio ) is an American religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Lexington .

Life

John Stowe joined the religious order of the Minorites and initially studied philosophy and history at Saint Louis University . He then obtained a master's degree in theology ( Master of Divinity ) and a licentiate in church history at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley . He made his perpetual profession on August 1, 1992 and was ordained a priest on September 16, 1995 by Alexander James Quinn , Auxiliary Bishop in Cleveland .

After working in pastoral care in El Paso , he was vicar general in the diocese of El Paso from 2003 to 2010 . In 2010 he became Vicar Provincial of the Minorite Province and Rector of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey , Ohio .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Lexington on March 12, 2015 . He was ordained episcopal by the Archbishop of Louisville , Joseph Edward Kurtz , on May 5 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Fresno , Armando Xavier Ochoa , and the Bishop of San Isidro de El General , Gabriel Enrique Montero Umaña OFMConv.
