John Walton (politician)

John Walton (* 1738 in Colony of Virginia , † 1783 in New Savannah , Georgia ) was an American politician and a settler near Augusta , Georgia. He was a brother of George Walton , governor and US Senator from Georgia, and the cousin of Matthew Walton , Congressman for Kentucky .

Walton was elected as a delegate from St. Paul Parish to the Provincial Congress in Savannah in 1775 . He was then elected to the Continental Congress on February 26, 1778 , where he signed the Articles of Confederation on July 24, 1778 . He was also a land surveyor in Richmond County for several years before he died in 1783.
