José de Almeida Batista Pereira

José de Almeida Batista Pereira (born July 27, 1917 in São Gonçalo , State of Rio de Janeiro , Brazil , † January 30, 2009 in Nova Friburgo ) was Roman Catholic bishop of Sete Lagoas and later of Guaxupé .

Life

José de Almeida Batista Pereira studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the seminary in Ipiranga and with the Salesians in São João del Rei . On December 22nd, 1940 he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Niterói . He taught at the seminars in São Paulo , Rio de Janeiro and Niterói . He was rain at the seminary in São José .

On December 22, 1953, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular bishop of Baris in Pisidia and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in the archdiocese of Niterói. He received his episcopal consecration on February 2, 1954, the Curia Bishop and later Cardinal Carlo Chiarlo ; Co- consecrators were José Newton de Almeida Baptista , Archbishop of Diamantina , and Manoel Pedro da Cunha Cintra , Bishop of Petrópolis . His motto was Ipsa conteret .

On November 7, 1955, he was appointed first bishop of Sete Lagoas . Pope Paul VI appointed him on April 2, 1964 Bishop of Guaxupé .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

On January 16, 1976 Pope Paul VI. his early resignation. He then lived in Nova Friburgo and was buried here in the crypt of the cathedral.
