Josef Ludwig Brems

Josef Ludwig Brems OPraem , also Josef Brems, (born August 7, 1870 in Testelt , district of Scherpenheuvel-Zichem , Belgium ; †  April 5, 1958 in Copenhagen , Denmark ) was a Roman Catholic Bishop and Apostolic Vicar of Denmark .

Life

Josef Ludwig braking occurred after his high school in the religious community of Norbertine one. He studied theology and received on 9 March 1895 by Cardinal Benedetto Lorenzelli the priesthood . Afterwards he worked in various parishes in Northern Germany and Denmark .

On October 10, 1922, Pope Pius XI appointed him . (1922–1939) Titular Bishop of Roskilde and made him Vicar Apostolic of Denmark. On January 25, 1923 , Cardinal Désiré-Joseph Mercier , Archbishop of Mechelen , consecrated him as bishop. Co- consecrators were Thomas Heylen OPraem, Bishop of Namur , and Arnold Diepen , Bishop of 's-Hertogenbosch . During his tenure, he was co-consecrator to Charles Alphonse Armand Vanuytven OPraem as titular bishop of Megara (Vicar Apostolic of Buta ( Belgian Congo )) and Georges Désiré Raeymaecker's OPraem as Titular Bishop of Mariamme (Vicar Apostolic of Buto (Belgian Congo)).

In 1938 he retired and lived in Copenhagen until his death on April 5, 1958. He was the 2nd class commander of the Dannebrog Order .
