Josef Eschbach

Josef Eschbach ( pseudonyms : Brigitte Delheid , Monika Heuschen , Anneliese Schwarzer , Helga York , born November 12, 1916 in Eschweiler ; † May 16, 1992 ibid) was a German writer . He is the father of the semiotic Achim Eschbach .

Life

Josef Eschbach was the son of an official . After attending grammar school in Eschweiler, which he graduated with the final examination, he entered the Jesuit order in 1935 . He began his novitiate in Heerenberg in the Netherlands and in Hochelten . From 1937 studied it philosophy at the Jesuit college in Pullach in Munich . From 1939 he was a soldier in the Wehrmacht and took part in the French campaign in 1940 . In the same year Eschbach was expelled from the Reich Chamber of Literature after the publication of his literary debut "A Boy Finds Home" . In 1940/41 he continued his studies in philosophy, theology and history . In February 1941 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht again. In October 1941, Eschbach was released from the Wehrmacht due to a Führer decree due to his religious affiliation. Eschbach then continued his studies at the St. Georgen Jesuit College in Frankfurt am Main , but resigned from the order in February 1942.

Josef Eschbach then initially worked for the Habbel publishing house in Regensburg . In 1942/43 he studied German at the University of Bonn . In October 1943 he married Helga York. From 1943 to 1945 he continued his studies at the University of Vienna continued, and in April 1945 received his doctorate he there with a work about the writer Rudolf Henz for doctor of philosophy . Shortly before the end of the Second World War , Eschbach fled Vienna back to his hometown of Eschweiler. There he opened a bookstore and also worked as a freelance writer. In the 1960s Eschbach was a teacher at the elementary school in Eschweiler-Bergrath and finally until 1982 at the Eschweiler Forest School.

Josef Eschbach wrote numerous novels and stories for children and young people in the 1950s and 1960s ; his girls' books appeared under a total of four different female pseudonyms .
