Josef Hudetz (born August 7, 1842 in Vienna ; † December 16, 1909 there ) was an Austrian architect .

Life

The son of a master tailor attended the Polytechnic and then studied in the mid-1860s at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Eduard van der Nüll . After successfully completing his studies, Hudetz went on a long study trip to Italy and Germany.

Initially working as a freelance architect in Vienna, he was employed by Union-Baugesellschaft between 1872 and 1875 . After that, Hudetz worked independently again, but remained in close contact with his former company. He also took part in many competitions that brought him contracts outside Vienna and published various urban planning proposals.

Josef Hudetz was a founding member of the cooperative of visual artists in Vienna, where he worked on numerous committees and as a juror.

power

As an architect, Hudetz was influenced by his teacher Eduard van der Nüll. His buildings are all built in the late historical style. He initially designed in the forms of the Viennese Neo-Renaissance , later also in the Neo-Baroque . In addition to residential buildings, public buildings and factories were also built according to his plans.

Since Hudetz was involved in the design of entire blocks of houses at Union-Baugesellschaft, this activity also led him to consider urban planning. He took part in the discussion of a new general regulatory plan in Vienna and made suggestions for redesigning the Stubenviertel, Karlsplatz and a new axis to be created across the inner city. He also advocated the idea of pneumatically transporting the corpses to the new Vienna Central Cemetery , as this was far away from the city center at the time and was difficult to get to by traffic.
