Josef Mönninger (born December 2, 1919 in Rüdigheim near Amöneburg , † January 3, 2017 in Fulda ) was a German Catholic clergyman in the diocese of Fulda .

Life

Mönninger attended the Episcopal Latin School in Amöneburg and then switched to the Konvikt in Fulda . After graduating from high school in Fulda in 1938, he was initially called up for labor service and, when war broke out, immediately for military service in the Wehrmacht . At the end of the war he was an artillery officer in the east. It was not until 1946 that he was able to continue his studies at the Philosophical-Theological University in Fulda. On 24 July 1949 he received by Bishop John Baptist Dietz the priesthood . This was followed by years of chaplaincy in Fulda in St. Sturmius and the parish of St. Blasius. From 1951 he was President of the Kolping Family Fulda. In 1955 he was appointed diocesan president of the Kolping Society in the diocese of Fulda and a year later in 1956 he was also appointed diocesan youth pastor for male youth. In addition, he worked as a religion teacher at the Fulda schools .

In 1960 Josef Mönninger was appointed pastor in Giesel (Neuhof) . Here he carried out the following construction measures: New construction of the St. Laurentius Church , the new construction of the rectory , the cemetery chapel and the youth home. At the same time he became President of the Kolping Family and the Catholic Women's Community (Kfd) in Giesel. Six years later, in 1966, Bishop Adolf Bolte gave him pastoral care for the St. Boniface parish in northeast Kassel ( Wesertor ). He worked in this growing city parish for over ten years. In 1972 he became the dean of the city ​​dean of Kassel and the regional dean of the newly formed Kassel region. He initiated the establishment of the Kassel city conference as well as the construction of the new regional house " Adolph Kolping ". In 1973 he was appointed Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ) and in 1980 Papal Honorary Prelate .

In 1977, Bishop Eduard Schick appointed him as Ordinary Councilor and Head of Department in the Episcopal General Vicariate and made him responsible for the territorial and personnel structure planning in the diocese. At the same time he was made honorary cathedral capitular at the Fulda cathedral church . At the beginning of 1978 he was appointed head of the pastoral office and a little later as cathedral chapter . In September 1984 he was also appointed chairman of the Diocesan Caritas Association .

From 1977 to 1990 he was a clerical adviser to the Catholic Council of the Diocese of Fulda. At the end of 1989 he was released from the leadership of the pastoral office, but he remained chairman of the Caritas association of the diocese until 1995 until he retired.

In June 2004 Mönninger was appointed Dome Capitular of the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Boniface in Plymouth by the Bishop of Plymouth , Christopher Budd , during a visit to England on the occasion of the 1250th anniversary of the martyrdom of St. Boniface .

At the age of 98 and the 68th year of his priesthood he died on January 3, 2017 in Fulda.

On January 10, 2017, at 2 p.m. in Amöneburg-Rüdigheim, there was a service followed by a burial in the local cemetery.
