Joseph "Jos" Frans Lescrauwaet MSC (born June 19, 1923 in Amsterdam , † November 19, 2013 in Tilburg ) was a Dutch religious , Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Haarlem and Grand Prior of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.

Life

Joseph Frans Lescrauwaet joined the order of the Sacred Heart Missionaries and was ordained a priest on September 12, 1948 . In 1957, with a thesis on the liturgical movement under the Dutch Reformed Church from an ecumenical perspective, he became Dr. theol. PhD . From 1957 he was Professor of Systematic Theology and Ecumenical Theology , first at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at Tilburg University (1967–1978) and later at the KU Leuven (1978–1984). He was also a professor in the Major Seminary of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.

In 1976 he was one of the first editors of the newly founded magazine "Communio". In 1979, Lescrauwaet was secretary of the Synod of Bishops' special envoy for the Netherlands.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Haarlem and titular bishop of Turres Concordiae on October 19, 1983 . The Bishop of Haarlem, Hendrik Joseph Alois Bomers CM , donated him episcopal ordination on January 14 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Hubertus Cornelis Antonius Ernst , Bishop of Breda , and Johannes Antonius de Kok OFM , Auxiliary Bishop in Utrecht . He was also vicar general of the diocese.

On March 22, 1995, Pope John Paul II granted his early retirement petition. Until 2001 he was spiritual and teacher at the Sint Janscentrum , the seminary of the diocese of 's-Hertogenbosch .

In 1986 he was appointed Grand Officer of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien Cardinal de Fürstenberg and invested in the Dutch Lieutenancy. He was the Grand Prior of the Dutch Lieutenancy of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
