Joseph Hartmann (painter)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joseph Hartmann (* before March 17, 1721 in Tiengen , † 1789 in Augsburg ) was a German painter and fresco artist . He can be verified as a painter from 1747 to 1788.

In addition to fresco painting, he also painted in oil and on glass. Several altar leaves and other oil paintings testify to this. Joseph Hartmann also painted his house in Augsburg, although these have not been preserved. Paul von Stetten mentions paintings that have not been preserved on the Augsburg houses on the Carlischen near the Heuwage and on the Munich Botenhaus near St. Ulrich and Afra . In the later creative years he mainly painted in oil. So he delivered historical paintings for exhibitions and took on orders from churches.

Works

Ceiling fresco in the Church of St. Rasso in Untergammenried

In the pilgrimage church of St. Rasso in Untergammenried near Bad Wörishofen he created the frescoes in 1747. In the church in Mögling, he painted the marked and dated ceiling painting Maria Himmelfahrt in 1758 . He painted the marked and dated ceiling painting of the miraculous spring of St. Gangulph and its glorification in 1760 in the church in Steinach in Upper Bavaria. A ceiling sketch depicting the story of St. Joseph is privately owned. In 1757 he made the high altar picture of the former monastery church of St. Margareta in Baumburg. From 1757 to 1758 he painted two altar leaves for the Nikolaikapelle in Seeon . The third altar panel and the frescoes in the chapel are probably also by Joseph Hartmann. In 1761 and 1763 he painted the high altar picture and the side altar pictures for the Rott Monastery with Mother Anna with Maria and Maria as donors of the rosary . For the former Dominican Church in Würzburg , he created the no longer preserved image of St. Vincent in 1762, which used to be seen on the northern altar on the choir arch. He painted another representation of St. Vincent for the Dominican Church in Augsburg in 1772. Other altarpieces in the church could also come from Hartmann. For the Katharinenkapelle of the church a picture came from his workshop in 1758, where Christ exchanged hearts for Mary. The ten pictures in the vicarage in Unterliezheim show scenes from the life of St. Leonhard. Hartmann is also known as the creator of works in the parish churches in Dezenacker , Straß and Längloh in the municipality of the Burgheim market ; In the neighboring church of Fernmittenhausen in the parish of Ehekirchen he created the Way of the Cross (signed 1764) and the high altar painting (1771).
