history

Mittenhausen was originally called Wittenhusen , meaning houses of Wittiko . The spellings were Wittichinhusen , Wittichhusen , Großmyttenhausen and Kleinmyttenhausen , Verrer Wittenhausen and Nähener Wittenhausen , Ferrermüttenhausen and Nahener Müttenhausen , Mittenhausen the distant and Mittenhausen the closer . From 1850 the current spelling prevailed.

Mittenhausen was first mentioned in 1214, when Hermann von Arbon, a member of a wealthy ministerial family of the Constance bishops, owned a fiefdom from Marshal Heinrich von Kalendin . An Albero and a Cunrat are also mentioned as farm owners.

The Heilig-Geist-Mühle was built in 1803 as a grinding mill , in 1806 it became a grinding mill and in 1920 it was shut down.

The Catholic branch church Sankt Michael in Fernmittenhausen belongs to the parish of Sankt Quirinus in neighboring Hollenbach . The tower and the eastern half of the nave date from 1200, the western part from 1764.

The Catholic branch church Sankt Sebastian in Nähermittenhausen also belongs to the Hollenbacher parish. The core of the masonry dates from the 14th century, the roof and tower end were damaged in the Thirty Years' War and then rebuilt.

Between the two villages is the Rinzenweiher with the little church of Sankt Wolfgang.

Until July 1, 1972, the independent municipality of Fernmittenhausen with its districts of Nähermittenhausen and Heilig-Geist-Mühle belonged to the district of Neuburg an der Donau and then fell to the enlarged district of Neuburg an der Donau as part of the regional reform in Bavaria , which on May 1 1973 was given the now valid name of the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen . On May 1, 1978 the place was incorporated into the parish Ehekirchen.
