Jozef Zlatňanský

Jozef Zlatňanský (born March 13, 1927 in Topoľčianky , Czechoslovakia ; † February 11, 2017 in Nitra , Slovakia ) was a Curia Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

Jozef Zlatňanský received in the December 22, 1951 Rome , the sacrament of Holy Orders . In 1955 he was at the Pontifical Lateran University in specialist Catholic theology doctorate and in 1959 he graduated from the Pontifical Gregorian University , a licentiate in specialized social sciences .

From 1961 to 1963, Zlatňanský professor of philosophy at the seminary of Catanzaro . Jozef Zlatňanský worked from 1964 to 1966 in the secretariat of the Commission for the Doctrine of Faith of the Second Vatican Council . From 1966 to 1975 he was an assistant in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith . Pope Paul VI bestowed on him on June 17, 1970 the title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). Zlatňanský was the head of the Doctrine of Faith Section of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith from 1975 to 1984. Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness on February 4, 1981 . On December 6, 1984, John Paul II appointed him Undersecretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. In addition, Jozef Zlatňanský was a member of the Pontifical Committee for Eucharistic Congresses from 1990 to 1994 .

On June 11, 1997, Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Mons Faliscus and appointed him secretary of the Interdicasterial Commission for the Church in Eastern Europe . He received his episcopal consecration on July 20, 1997, Jozef Cardinal Tomko , Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples ; Co - consecrators were Archbishop Tarcisio Bertone SDB , Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Archbishop Ján Sokol , Archbishop of Bratislava-Trnava . Jozef Zlatňanský chose the motto Veritas iustitia caritas (“Truth, Justice, Love”). On June 8, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted Zlatňanský's resignation due to reasons of age.
