Career

society

Juan Carlos González began playing football in 1944 in the men's team of Club Atlético Peñarol , next to record champions Nacional Montevideo , the first address in football in the small country on the Rio de la Plata . Overall, González, who acted on the position of a defender, was under contract with the Aurinegros until his retirement in 1956 and won the Uruguayan championship twice during this time. In the 1949 season, the first place in the Primera División was occupied with six points ahead of the eternal rival Nacional . Two years later they became champions again, this time with two counters again ahead of the Bolsos . In 1952, Peñarol and Nacional were equal on points after all match days, the better goal difference being with Nacional, which could also win the now necessary playoff. In the following years, too, the Club Nacional de Football was always ahead of Peñarol. When the club's most successful phase to date with two Copa Libertadores victories and various championship titles began at the beginning of the sixties, Juan Carlos González was no longer at the Estadio Centenario , he had ended his active career in 1956.

National team

From his debut on May 6, 1950 against Brazil (final score: 4: 3) to his last appearance on April 13, 1952, Juan Carlos González came to seven appearances in the Uruguayan national soccer team . He did not hit the opposing goal. Uruguay's coach Juan López called him into the squad for the 1950 World Cup in Brazil . At the tournament he was used in the first two games of his team, the 8-0 in the group stage against Bolivia and in the first final round match against Spain (2-2). But he missed the two remaining games against Sweden (3: 2) and Brazil ( 2: 1 ), where Uruguay became world champions for the second time in Maracanã .
