Washington Ortuño (born May 13, 1928 , † 1974 or September 15, 1973 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ) was a Uruguayan football player .

The midfielder , who came from the youth team of Peñarol, was in the squad of the Uruguayan first division club Peñarol from 1946 to 1951 or from 1949 to 1952, depending on the sources . What is certain is that he made his debut in a Clásico for the first time on July 24, 1949 . In 1949 and 1951 he won the Uruguayan championship with his teammates. After he broke a leg as a result of a foul by Rampla Juniors center forward Rubén Loza on December 8, 1951, he had to end his career. A comeback attempt in 1954 failed.

National team

Ortuño was a member of the Uruguayan national soccer team , took part with her in the soccer world championship in 1950 and became world champion. However, he was not used during the tournament. He was the substitute player for Víctor Rodríguez Andrade intended, who replaced him in 1952 after his sudden career end in his club Peñarol.
