Luis Alberto Rijo (born September 28, 1927 - † May 8, 2001 in Rivera ) was a Uruguayan football player .

The striker was in the squad of Uruguayan first division club Central in at least 1950 .

National team

Rijo was a member of the Uruguayan national soccer team , took part with her in the soccer world championship in 1950 and became world champion. However, he was not used during the tournament. During the tournament he was supposed to be the substitute for Oscar Omar Míguez .

death

Rijo died on May 8, 2001 at his home in Rivera , but was buried in Montevideo in the Panteón de los Olímpicos in the Buceo cemetery.

In December 2005 the Uruguayan Post issued a stamp for the 100th anniversary of Central Español's founding, which was provided with the likeness of Rijo, Víctor Rodríguez Andrade and Juan López . These were the three protagonists who represented the club at the 1950 World Cup.
