Matías González (born August 6, 1925 in Artigas , † May 12, 1984 ) was a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.80 meter tall central defender , who came to Montevideo in 1948, played at club level for the Uruguayan club Club Atlético Cerro .

National team

González was also a member of his home country's national team and took part in the 1950 World Cup with her . In this tournament he was used in all games of his team and won the world title with them. As the only player on the team, his birthplace was in the interior of Uruguay. So he did not come from Montevideo and the surrounding area like the others. He also took part in the Copa America , the South American Championships in 1949 , 1953 and 1955 . In 1953, his country was able to achieve third place.

In total, he completed from his debut on April 13, 1949 to his last appearance on October 10, 1956 30 internationals, in which he was denied a goal.

In Artigas, the 6,000-seat municipal stadium near the Puente Internacional de la Concordia bears González in honor of his name.
