Carlos Romero (born September 7, 1927 , † July 28, 1999 ) was a Uruguayan football player .

The striker played in his career at club level exclusively for the Montevideo- based club Danubio , in whose squad he was from 1947 to 1962. He played 411 games for Danubio, making him the club's record player. Since his debut he has been on the team continuously and has never been injured. As part of his club membership, he first celebrated winning the championship title with his teammates in 1946 in the Tercera Especial . He then became the first team in 1947 champion in the B . By winning the Uruguayan runner-up in 1954, his team ensured the greatest success in the club's history. It was followed in 1958 by the runner-up in the Torneo Competencia . In 1960 Romero and his teammates became champions of the Segunda División and secured promotion to the Primera División .

Romero is described as a strong dribble playmaker with a good shot.

National team

Romero was a member of the Uruguayan national soccer team , took part with her in the soccer world championship in 1950 and became world champion. However, he was not used during the tournament. He was also part of the Uruguayan squad at the Campeonato Sudamericano in 1953 . At the South American Championship he scored three goals in the course of the tournament, making him the most successful goalscorer of his team after Osvaldo Balseiro , and was considered one of the best players of the tournament. Romero completed eleven international matches from April 7, 1950 to July 1, 1956, in which he scored a total of four goals.
