The Campeonato Sudamericano of 1955 was the 23rd game of the South American continental championship in football and took place for the fifth time in Chile from February 27th to March 30th. Bolivia , Brazil , Colombia and Venezuela did not participate.
The tournament was played in the league system (everyone against everyone). If there was a tie in first place, a playoff was planned. All games were played in the Estadio Nacional de Chile in Santiago. As in previous tournaments, some games were played one after the other as part of a double event on one day.
In 1955, Argentina won the South American football championship for the tenth time, thereby expanding its record.
