Judgment Day was a Dutch death metal band from the province of Gelderland that was formed in 1988 and split up in 2005.

history

The band was founded in 1988 by guitarist Theo van Eekelen and singer Jeroen Dammers. A short time later, drummer Freek Kamphorst and bassist Maarten Vlot joined the band and completed the line-up. The first gigs followed in the Netherlands before the group recorded their first demo Hypocritical in July 1990 . Shortly after the recordings, Wim van Burken joined the band as the second guitarist. In June 1991 the group recorded a second demo called Corpseflakes . A few months after the recordings, Kamphorst and Vlot left the band. Bas van den Boogaard joined the line-up as the new bass player. After trying out some new drummers, the band asked Kamphorst if he wanted to join them again. After his re-entry, she performed in the Czech Republic in July 1993. She then played concerts in Slovakia with Krabathor , Dehydrated , Rising Nation and Darkside . In August 1993 Nolo joined the band as the new drummer. Then this began with the work on the next publication. The band played the newly written material in Přerov and Pilsen . This was followed by appearances in the Netherlands together with Blood and Sinister . In July 1994 the band went to Harrow Studios to record new songs. Five of these were used for the demo pathology crowding , including the Slaughter cover FOD . In August 1994 the band went to the Czech Republic for further appearances, including a concert with Pungent Stench . In December 1994 the band signed a contract with Effigy Records for a split release and a studio album. The split release appeared in October 1995 under the name Effigy of the Possessed , which also featured the bands Evisceration and Esmegor. In October 1995 the band went to Sandwijk Studios to record the debut album Cir-Cum-Cis-Ion of the Mar-Tyr . In addition to Dammer, Simone could be heard as a singer. Simone was supposed to leave the band shortly after a tour through the Czech Republic. Another tour through the Czech Republic with Krabathor followed in November. The tour included ten performances in cities such as Prague , Ostrava , Brno and Pilsen. In 1996 the band separated from their label. In the same year, the band also held a small tour of Germany with Sinister. After that, the band wrote new material. Meanwhile, Dammers and Nolo left the band. Centurian drummer Wim van der Valk joined the band as a temporary replacement . Johan Wesdijk ( Pleurisy ) joined the line-up as the new singer . With this new line-up followed appearances in Germany together with Krisiun and Purgatory , as well as an appearance at the Czech Nuclear Storm Festival. In 1997 the band recorded three songs for an EP produced by Vincent Dijkers , which was to be released through Moonlight Records . However, the label broke up beforehand. For the rest of the year the band played other gigs, among others with Benediction and Krabathor. Van Eekelen also joined Houwitser . In August 1998, a new drummer was found in Paul Beltman. Around the same time, singer Wesdijk left the band to devote himself to Pleurisy. For the same reason, bassist van den Bogaard left the band. In 1999 van Eekelen switched from electric guitar to bass and also joined Thanatos as bassist. In October the band found a new guitarist in Ferry Klingenberg. After a few rehearsals, the band recorded a few new songs. Since still no new singer had been found, guitarist Baayens also took over the vocals. In January 2000 the band went to Baayens' studio, together with singer Olivier van der Kruijf. In the same year the band also recorded the demo Gothcrusher and released the EP To Conjure Conjoint Confusion . In addition, van Eekelen left the band and was replaced by bassist Willem Hofs. In November 2002 another EP was released with March of the Apocalypse . In addition, the band had held concerts with Obscenity , The Haunted , Centurian, Inhume , Mangled and Orphanage in the Netherlands and Germany. In August 2003 the recordings for the second album 40 Minutes to Impact began , which were finished in November. After the recordings had been sent to various labels, the band reached a contract with New Aeon Media , about which the album was released in April 2004. On March 17, 2005, the band broke up.

style

The band played classic, aggressive death metal, with the electric guitar being played particularly fast. Influences from Grindcore and Thrash Metal can also be heard.
