Jules Louis Lewal (born December 13, 1823 in Paris , † January 22, 1908 in Senlis ) was a French général de division and military writer .

Life

Lewal joined the army in 1846, became a captain in 1848 and took part in the Crimean War . He then took part in the battles in Italy in 1859 as Chef d'escadron , in Mexico from 1862 as Lieutenant-Colonel in the General Staff with distinction, was commissioned by Adolphe Niel in 1866 to reorganize the General Staff according to the Prussian model and was at the beginning of German in 1870 -French War Colonel in the General Staff of the Rhine Army . In March 1888 he was elected inspector general of one of the newly established army inspections.

Lewal took his leave on February 1, 1889 and died in 1908.
