Julia Kathleen McKenzie CBE (born February 17, 1941 in Enfield Town , Middlesex , England ) is a British actress , singer and director .

Life

Julia McKenzie was born in Enfield, England, to Kathleen Rowe and Albion McKenzie. In 1971 she married the American director and actor Jerry Harte.

The actress has appeared in well-known theaters, for example on the stages in London's West End or on Broadway in New York. For example, she acted in the revue Cowardy Custard at the Mermaid Theater, played "Miriam" in Outside Edge by Richard Harris and "Lily Garland" in On the Twentieth Century . Also in the drama Schweik in the Second World War by Bertolt Brecht they occurred. For her role as "Miss Adelaide" in Guys and Dolls , she received awards for best actress for the Variety Club Awards , the Soc of West End Theater Awards and the Olivier Award .

McKenzie sang and played in London in 1976 and 1977 on Broadway in the musical Side By Side by Stephen Sondheim with. and was nominated for the Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for her acting performance . The following year she played a leading role in the British comedy series Maggie and Her .

Julia McKenzie was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Royal Academy of Music in 1985 and an honorary Doctor of Letters from London South Bank University in 1999 . In 2007 she starred in the comedy You Can Choose Your Friends and as a leading actress in the television series Cranford. The following year, it was announced that they replace Geraldine McEwan in the filming of Agatha Christie's Marple of Agatha Christie 's Miss Marple permitting. She played this role until 2013.
