Julia Susan Ratcliffe (born July 14, 1993 in Hamilton ) is a New Zealand hammer thrower .

Athletic career

Julia Ratcliffe gained her first international experience at the Youth World Championships 2009 in Brixen , where she finished tenth in the final with a width of 51.62 m. The following year she took part in the first ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and won the silver medal with 50.49 m. In 2012 she took fourth place at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona with a throw of 67.00 m and in 2013 she reached sixth place at the Summer Universiade in Kazan with 65.17 m. The following year she took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the first time and won the silver medal behind the Canadian Sultana Frizell with 69.96 m . In 2015 she again took part in the Student World Games in Gwangju , where she won the bronze medal behind the Azerbaijani Hanna Skydan and Joanna Fiodorow from Poland with a width of 67.54 m .

In 2017 she qualified for the first time for the World Championships in London , where she was eliminated with 64.72 m in the preliminary round. Shortly thereafter, she took eleventh place at the Summer Universiade in Taipei with 61.39 m. In 2018 she again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and won there with a throw of 69.94 m. The following year she won with a new continental record of 71.39 meters at the Ozeanienmeisterschaften in Townsville and received a right to start in the World Championships in Doha , where they m with 70.45 in the qualifying retired.

In 2011 and 2012 as well as in 2016 and 2018, Ratcliffe was New Zealand hammer throw champion. She graduated from Princeton University .
