Juliane Frühwirt (born March 18, 1998 in Gotha ) is a German biathlete.

Origin and life

Juliane Frühwirt comes from Tambach-Dietharz in the Gotha district and was taken on ski tours by her parents as a small child. At the age of eight she joined the local ski club and started systematic training. In 2012, at the age of 14, she moved to the Oberhof ski school to combine school education and good training opportunities. After passing high school in spring 2017, she moved to Mittenwald to train with Bernhard Kröll at the base there.

Juliane Frühwirt is a member of the Federal Customs Administration's elite sports sponsorship .

Career

Juliane Frühwirt competed in her first international biathlon race at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer . After flawless shooting, she won her first race with the sprint, in the mixed relay she won the silver medal behind the victorious team from Norway together with Franziska Pfnür , Simon Groß and Danilo Riethmüller .

In autumn 2017 she won the relay race at the German Championships in Ruhpolding together with Luise Kummer and Marie Heinrich . In winter 2017/18 she took part in races in the IBU Junior Cup for the first time and achieved four top 10 placements in her first season. In the sprint in Nové Město na Moravě , she missed her first podium finish by less than two seconds in fourth. At the 2018 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Otepää , she was less successful and never achieved a top 10 placement in any race. In the 2018/19 season she was second on the podium for the first time in the IBU Junior Cup in the mixed relay race in Prémanon, France, together with Max Barchewitz , Tim Grotian and Hanna-Michelle Hermann . In the two following days she was first again second in the sprint and improved - despite seven shooting errors - in the pursuit race by one place and won her first race in the Junior Cup. Immediately afterwards she won silver in the individual competition at the 2019 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Brezno - Osrblie together with Franziska Pfnür and Hanna Kebinger in the relay race. Outside of the junior races, she was also used at the 2019 European Biathlon Championships in Minsk , where she reached places 24, 51 and 39. She remained part of the IBU Cup team at the season finale and finished third behind Chloé Chevalier and Janina Hettich in the last race of the season, the sprint in Otepää , securing her first podium finish in the IBU Cup. Back with the juniors, she took part in the 2019 Biathlon Junior European Championships . After bronze in the mixed relay, she won bronze in the sprint race and gold in the pursuit race.

As two years before, Juliane Frühwirt was again successful at the German Championships in Ruhpolding and won the bronze medal in the relay race together with Vanessa Voigt and Marie Heinrich . In winter 2019/20 she was part of the German team in the IBU Cup at the start of the season , but seventh place in the opening races in Sjusjøen , Norway , remained her only top 10 finish of the winter. At the 2020 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Lenzerheide , she was eighth in the individual competition, 18th in the sprint and seventh in the pursuit. In the relay race, together with Franziska Pfnür , Sabrina Braun and Lisa Spark, she narrowly missed the medal ranks in fourth place. At the Junior Cup in Bayerisch Eisenstein , she again achieved a podium finish in second place.
