Julie Nelson (born June 4, 1985 in Larne ) is a Northern Irish football player . She has been playing for the women's team of the Crusaders Newtownabbey Strikers again since 2016 . Since 2004 she has played for the Northern Irish national team , of which she is the record player.
Career
Nelson played from 2002 to 2010 for the women's team of Crusaders Newtownabbey Strikers , with whom she won multiple championships and qualified for the 2010/11 UEFA Women's Champions League . She managed the only tournament goal of her team in the 1: 6 against FCR 2001 Duisburg . After making trips to Iceland, England and Scotland, where she won other titles with Glasgow City FC and advanced to the last sixteen and quarter-finals in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 UEFA Women's Champions League , she returned to the Crusaders in 2016.
She played her first international game at the Algarve Cup in 2004 , in which the Northern Irish lost all their games and only finished last. The Northern Irish could never qualify for a major tournament. The Northern Irish women qualified for the 2011 World Cup in third place behind France and Iceland with a difference of 13 points to Iceland. Nelson was used in all ten games and never missed a minute. In qualifying for the EM 2013 it was only enough for fourth place. Again, she didn't miss a minute. In the ten games she scored two goals. The Northern Irish finished their qualification for the 2015 World Cup as penultimate, appearing in all ten games, of which only the last game was won against the Faroe Islands , and again they did not miss a minute. The qualification for the European Championship in 2017 , they finished only second to last place, but could this time, after all, both games against the bottom club Georgia win. Nelson was used in the eight games and again did not miss a minute.
In qualifying for the 2019 World Cup , which was finished penultimate again, she was in the starting line-up seven times and was substituted on once. On September 4, 2018, she was the first Northern Irish player to play her 100th international match in the 1-0 loss in the last qualifying game against bottom- bottom Slovakia .
