Julio César Uribe (born May 9, 1958 in Lima ) is a former Peruvian football player who mainly played in midfield and currently works as a football coach.

Club level

Uribe began his professional career with his "hometown club" Sporting Cristal , to which he later returned again and again. During his first phase at Sporting Cristal, he won the Peruvian football championship twice in a row in the 1979 and 1980 seasons . In his later epochs he was also part of the championship squad in 1988 and 1991.

In 1982 Uribe moved to Serie A , where he was under contract with Cagliari Calcio for the following three seasons . He then returned to Sporting Cristal, but soon moved to Colombia , where he played for Atlético Junior and América de Cali . For the 1987/88 season he moved to the Mexican league and won the championship with Club America .

After this success he played a third time for Sporting Cristal and then again for América de Cali before returning to Mexico and was under contract with Tecos UAG in the 1989/90 and 1990/91 seasons . He then played again for Sporting Cristal and finally ended his active career at Club Carlos A. Mannucci .

National team

Between October 10, 1979 and August 27, 1989 Uribe completed 39 international appearances for the Peruvian national soccer team , in which he scored nine goals. The highlight of his national team career was his participation in the Soccer World Cup in 1982 , in which he was used in all three group matches (Peru dropped out as the bottom group prematurely).

Trainer

In addition to various clubs, Uribe was also the head coach of the Peruvian national team in two stages, which he looked after in 2000 and 2001 and again later between March and July 2007.
