Julius Levin
Julius Levin (born January 21, 1862 in Elbing , † January 29, 1935 in Brussels ) was a German medic , writer and violin maker .
Life
Julius Levin was the son of a Jewish religion teacher . He attended a humanistic grammar school and received violin lessons at an early age . After graduating from high school , he studied medicine at the universities in Berlin , Rostock and Königsberg . In 1886 he received his doctorate in medicine and then worked as a general practitioner in Berlin . During this time Levin became increasingly involved in literature , art , music and violin making ; In 1894 he gave up the medical profession and went to Paris as a correspondent for the " Berliner Börsen-Courier " . After his contract was not renewed, he trained as a violin maker . In 1909 he returned to Berlin, where he now worked as a violin maker and writer . In addition, Levin took an active part in the literary life of the Reich capital and was one of the founders of the Berlin Doctors Orchestra in 1911 . After the National Socialist seizure of power , Levin went into exile in Belgium in July 1933 . He accepted an invitation from the Belgian royal family; Plans to set up a violin-making school in Brussels came to nothing in the course of 1934. Levin, who had been suffering from cancer for a long time , died in 1935 after an operation in Brussels.
In addition to journalistic articles, Julius Levin wrote a number of novels and stories about Jewish life in his West Prussian homeland as well as a biography of Johann Sebastian Bach .
