Friedrich Wilhelm Julius Ising , von Ising since 1896 (born January 31, 1832 in Klein Wasserburg , † July 7, 1898 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of the Berlin armory . The gun collection he expanded was considered one of the best in the world.

Life

Julius was a son of the chief forester Wilhelm Ising (1791-1881) and his wife Wilhelmine, née Keller (1810-1884).

Military career

After attending the Markgrafenschule and the Köllnisches Gymnasium in Berlin, Ising joined the Guard Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army as a gunner on October 14, 1849 and was promoted to Portepeefähnrich at the beginning of June 1850 . For further training he graduated from the United Artillery and Engineering School from mid-October 1850 , which he had to leave early due to illness. At the end of July 1852 he became a regular second lieutenant , continued his training from mid-October 1852 to the beginning of July 1854 and was named an artillery officer on October 5, 1854 with a patent from July 22, 1852. From June 1859, Ising was assigned to the test command of the artillery testing commission for one year . He then served as a department adjutant and rose to prime lieutenant in mid-October 1859 . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was assigned to the combined fortress artillery department on February 7, 1860, and at the same time until April 10, 1860 as an instruction officer for rifled artillery at the Artillery Revision Commission in Spandau. Ising returned to the Guards Artillery Brigade on October 1, 1860 and was an investigative officer from May 1, 1863 to April 18, 1864. On April 18, 1865 he was promoted to captain and on September 7, 1866 appointed battery chief.

During the Franco-Prussian War , Ising was seriously wounded by shrapnel in the Battle of Gravelotte in 1870, which shattered his left upper arm. Awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class, he was no longer able to be used in the field due to the wound. Therefore, after the preliminary peace of Versailles on April 18, 1871 , he was transferred to the position of his regiment à la suite to head the training battery at the artillery shooting school. With the transfer to the Guards foot artillery regiment , Ising was appointed director of the artillery depot in Berlin on November 23, 1871. In this capacity he was late November 1872 the character as a Major in 1873 and mid-January, the patent to his rank. Left in his position, he was placed à la suite of the Guards Foot Artillery Regiment on January 27, 1875. On June 11, 1879, he rose to lieutenant colonel . With the rank and fees of a regimental commander, Ising was appointed commander of the Berlin armory on September 6, 1879 under position à la suite of the 2nd Guards Field Artillery Regiment .

Left in this position, Ising was transferred to the army officers in his uniform on August 14, 1880. He rose to the rank of colonel in mid-October 1883 , received the character of major general on August 2, 1888, and on January 18, 1890, the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, and on January 28, 1895, the character of lieutenant general. On the 25th anniversary of the imperial proclamation , Wilhelm II raised him to the hereditary Prussian nobility on January 18, 1896 . In approval of his resignation request, he was put up for disposal on August 18, 1897 with a pension . After his departure, Ising received the star for the crown medal, 2nd class, on the occasion of the festival in January 1898 .

He died on July 7, 1898 in Berlin and was buried four days later in the Hasenheide cemetery.

family

Ising married Marianne Volckard (1842-1896) on November 25, 1863 in Berlin. After her death in Berlin in 1897 he married Marianne Gartig, widowed Steinkopf. The following children were born from the first marriage:
