Young, blond, dead - Julia Durant determined is a German TV film directed by Maria von Heland from 2018 . This is the first film of the crime film series Julia Durant determined , in turn, on the Julia Durant - series of crime novels of the writer Andreas Franz based.

action

The film is about the chief detective Julia Durant and her first case after an operation in which she was seriously injured and traumatized.

Three young women were found murdered and mutilated in various locations in downtown Frankfurt. The investigations of her team, consisting of the detective inspectors Markus Schulz and Felix Dombrowski and forensic doctor Elif Kaymaz, lead to a group of Frankfurt high society . These include the management consultant Roland Menzel, lawyer Daniel Tomlin and the psychologist Martin Patanec. During the investigation, another young woman is missing, who is found dead a short time later in a city forest. According to Durant, however, this murder was carried out by a free rider , as many details (such as the location or the clothing of the victim) do not match the previous murders. Soon afterwards, Menzel's son confesses to this murder because the young woman separated from him and she was pregnant with his father. In the meantime, tennis student Vera Maiwald has been kidnapped and held in Patanec's hut in a wooded area. When Patanec comes to the hut, Maiwald is able to free himself with a scalpel and flee. Then Patanec is shot.

Durant finds out that Tomlin committed the serial murders due to a traumatized childhood and the death of his abusive mother. He wanted to put the blame on Patanec by summoning him to the hut and placing the scalpel in such a way that Maiwald could free himself. The murder of Patanec should look like suicide. Tomlin is now trying to kill Durant because she is the only one who has discovered his secret so far. Fortunately, their colleagues Schulz and Dombrowski can prevent that.

reception

criticism

The reviews have been mostly positive. Heike Hupertz wrote in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the film was really good in contrast to other Sat.1 television films. The script adaptation of the novel from 1996 by the authors Kai-Uwe Hasenheit, Lancelot von Naso and Andreas Bareiss is commendable. "The 'look' attaches great importance to modern international thriller competitiveness." In contrast, there are the Taunus crime film adaptations by the ZDF station , "which take into account a thousand and one frayed book details that inhibit the flow of narrative". The program magazine TV Spielfilm praised the work of director Maria von Heland, who staged the start of the new crime series with a lot of sensitivity and nonchalance. In addition, the main actress Sandra Borgmann, who has only played supporting roles in films and series for 20 years, shines.

However, Julian Miller wrote in the online TV magazine Quotenmeter.de that the "narrative indecision and television, film-like crime-standard program" leave the film as "uninteresting, but at the same time unagitated usually television" look. In addition, he criticizes the title Young, Blond, Dead , which indicates an unnecessary fixation on the clichéd motif of the "boy-girl murder". He concluded: "If Julia Durant were to investigate here for the first and last time, it would be a bearable loss for the supply of German television commissioners."
